New Alliance to Help Public Power Systems in Michigan
EVERGREEN, Colo.— The public power communities in Michigan will be learning about price breaks and innovations in metering, SCADA, outage management, and smart grid solutions through a new partnership between the Michigan Municipal Electric Association (MMEA) and Hometown Connections, a utilities service subsidiary of the American Public Power Association (APPA).
Through this marketing partnership, MMEA will host local events and publish advertising, articles, and other materials showcasing the portfolio of Hometown Connections products and services, which include SCADA systems, smart metering, smart grid information platform & web portal, engineering analysis & OMS/GIS/IVR software, customer information software, cyber security, customer & employee research, online energy audits, and property & casualty insurance. Hometown Connections also offers consulting in the areas of broadband smart grid communications and business strategy development. Hometown Connections supports APPA members by securing national group pricing and service arrangements from the leading industry suppliers of the products and services it offers.
The Michigan Municipal Electric Association is Michigan’s trade group for 40 municipally-owned electric utilities. The communities in Michigan that own and operate a municipal utility provide approximately 8% of the state’s total electricity requirements. Many of these municipal utilities are more than 100 years old.
“Along with providing our member cities with a host of services such as legislative support, legal assistance and educational seminars and training, MMEA is pleased to partner with Hometown Connections to help our members purchase the utility operations products and business planning services they need to meet today’s economic and utility management challenges,” said Jim Weeks, Executive Director.
.
Tim Blodgett, Hometown Connections President and Chief Executive Officer, said, “Hometown Connections looks forward to this new marketing alliance with MMEA in order to help public power communities in Michigan obtain the utility planning and technology solutions designed to meet the unique needs of public power systems and their customers.”
