Energy Risk Management Consulting

Today’s energy market landscape changes frequently with new risks created by wholesale market regulations, volatile electricity and fuel prices, power plant and transmission availability, changing market participants and credit quality. It’s crucial to manage these influences prior to their impacts on your system. The Energy Authority® offers a solution with its TEA Risk Advisor™ suite of services, designed to help public power utilities manage energy and credit risk.

The Energy Authority®: For Public Power, By Public Power™
The TEA Risk Advisor includes six component elements that can be executed separately or in conjunction to meet the individual needs of your utility.

These components include the Energy Risk Education Seminar, the Credit Risk Education Seminar, Energy Risk Policy Development Services, Counterparty Credit Assessment Services, Energy Risk Assessment services, and Energy Risk Strategy Development Services.

Any component you choose will be tailored to suit the needs of your utility and delivered on site by an experienced professional.

Doing business in today’s energy market exposes all utilities to increased energy risks. The Energy Authority understands your public power values and the new challenges you face because we share them. TEA® is the result of public power utilities working together to pool resources and lower costs for the benefit of all involved. TEA offers a unique combination of experienced public power professionals and national wholesale energy market presence that’s unparalleled in the industry today. Together, TEA’s participating utilities own more than 18,000 MW of generating assets.

The TEA Risk Advisor Suite
The Energy Risk Education Seminar is an onsite workshop presented in either a half-day or two-day format. The half-day version is designed for your board members and senior management, offering an overview of risks unique to the energy industry. The two-day format is designed for management and staff charged with daily energy risk management efforts.

The Credit Risk Education Seminar, presented in a either a half-day or two-day format, is designed to help you assess the quality and credit-worthiness of your counterparties.

Energy Risk Policy Development services will help you document your energy and credit risk management philosophy, identify tools and techniques to manage risk exposures, specify your energy and credit risk management methodologies, and define your reporting requirements.

Through the Counterparty Credit Assessment Services, TEA’s credit analysts review the creditworthiness of the counterparties you define. Up-to-the-minute market intelligence, proprietary model scoring results, rating agencies’ findings, and statistical analysis are used.

Through the Energy Risk Assessment Services, TEA reviews your entire portfolio of generating resources, power contracts, fuel contracts, energy suppliers, customer loads, and more. The result is a quantification of your portfolio’s market risk exposure.

When delivering Energy Risk Strategy Development Services, TEA analysts work with you to combine extensive personal experience in public power with proven, contemporary tools and resources to produce a strategic plan tailored to fit the unique needs of your system. The result is a customized strategy for employing physical and financial hedging tools to help you increase your assets’ value without exposure to unnecessary risk.
